An interview with David Waldron, a strategic sustainability leader with expertise in sustainability science, strategic sustainable development and regenerative change processes. Originally trained as a professional engineer, David has been manager, project leader, community organizer and strategic sustainability advisor over the last 30 years. He has led and managed initiatives in 5 countries and for 4 different institution types (business, government, nonprofit and higher education). He led a sustainability partnership for Whistler, Canada and designed and directed a science-based, master’s program for sustainability leadership at BTH, Sweden. He has worked with multinational companies, national nonprofits, large cities and taught at prominent universities (e.g. UC Berkeley).
In retirement, he is reflecting on today’s (un)sustainability challenge from multiple angles, always towards a fair, flourishing and ecologically sustainable human enterprise. He remains active with a local food-focused charity, an authentic global movement (e.g. ecological civilization) and seeking opportunities for more meaningful roles for sustainability professionals.
